Karla Doberstein, brain injury and beyond...
May 2018 - Website revamp on the way - I promise!!

Karla's Story...
I still want to document Karla's story at some point, from the original injury to where we are now - yep a long project, hey ho, something for me to do right?? Also to those of you who knew her would love to have any copies of pics that you might have, or 'stand out' memories - drop me an email.
Hopefully in the New Year I will have a page for these and also a chance that you can add thoughts and pics yourself to the page (work in progress, and a learning curve - takes longer these days with the 'pensioner' brain)

But just in case you don't know what happened to Karla, here it is in a nutshell...

…late on October 3rd 2001 at home in Phuket, Thailand, Karla fell heavily backwards and hit her head on the solid tile floor. Knocked unconscious she was taken to Phuket Hospital where she had scans etc and was in intensive care within a hour or so. But to cut it short she suffered severe brain damage due to bleeding in the brain, and other complications. Eventually we returned to UK in July 2002 and since 2004 has been living at home in Cheshire, UK. She is considered to be 'persistent vegetative state' but she has found her sense of humour in the last few years (started smiling and laughing in 2006) so she keeps me cheerful.

I hope you can enjoy the news on the blog, although it's not a very exciting life. Perhaps there are others out there in a similar situation….? Karla would want me to keep it upbeat, so I will...

Karla before the injury

I have added a few pics of Karla before the accident - if others who knew her would like to share their photos too, it would be great, then I will definitely add a whole page of memories - 'Karla style'.
